Amanda Bischke
ACMG Apprentice Rock Guide
Amanda first found rock climbing while studying Kinesiology at the University of Calgary in 2012. Since then every moment of her life has been invested into the pursuit of being a guide. During her final year of study she chose courses that were offered online in order to move to Canmore where she could climb everyday. Her first guiding season was in 2013 where she worked as a instructor in Kananaskis.
Amanda is known by her friends as someone who never takes a rest day. Often organising a climbing partner for the morning until they are worn out and then finding another partner for the afternoon shift. Standing at a whopping 5 foot 1 Amanda uses impeccable footwork and her gymnastic background to grasp even the most out of each handholds. She has an incredible understanding of technical rope systems and is excellent at making the most of the day by being extremely efficient.
Amanda splits her time usually spending summer in Squamish where she has done most of the moderate classics. In the winter months Amanda works as an avalanche technician, ice climbing every day off and has ticked many hard Rockies ice lines: Polar Circus, Curtain Call and Weeping Wall just to name a few. During the shoulder seasons Amanda chooses to travel, from Squamish to Yosemite to first ascents in China and back. Climbing year round, she aims to improve both her technical and mental skills aiming to become the best climber and guide she can be.
When Amanda is not climbing you’ll find her playing in the Chief campground. Whether it’s games in the grass, chalk art or practicing Acroyoga. Amanda is very inquisitive and believes that life should be full of fun and creativity all of which she brings to SRG with her own unique style.
